But first, what is a vape kit? A vape kit, mod, pen, disposable - no matter what kind of device it is, it will have the same concept. Vapes generally speaking are devices that are made of a battery, tank, coil and mouthpiece. Vape juice is housed inside of the vapes tank. The vape coils heat up the vape liquid which is inhaled by the vaper. Once the user exhales, vapour is released. Vape pens and vape pods describe the shape of the vape and are chosen based on the user’s preference. Vape pods are almost always used as mouth to lung kits. Disposable vapes are low maintenance and compact disposable kits that can be disposed of after use. This makes them ideal for travel and on the go use when you don't have access to your vape kit. Vape mod kits or advanced vape kits, are bulkier vape devices that offer a plethora of customisation, have bigger batteries (sometimes external) and more power. Advanced vape kits are typically for seasoned vapers as they provide customisation options such as temperature control, wattage adjustments and various vape modes.
Now let's get into vaping methods. There are two main methods of vaping. Direct to lung and mouth to lung. Direct to lung (DTL) is popular amongst the cloud chasing community as this vaping method serves up massive vapour clouds. When you inhale into the mouthpiece of a direct to lung vape kit, you’ll notice right away that the inhale is smooth and airy. The vapour travels directly to your lungs, almost simultaneously as you inhale. On the exhale, you’ll notice a large amount of vapour. If you want to do vape tricks and/or experience more vape flavour, you’ll want to start vaping with a DTL vaping style.
Mouth to lung (MTL) vaping is popular amongst those who are trying to quit smoking. This is because the method in which you inhale the smoke of a cigarette is identical to that of a mouth to lung vaping method. If you were using a mouth to lung vape device, you would inhale the vapour from the mouth piece. The inhale itself would be somewhat restricted. The vapour would first enter your mouth and from there you inhale the vapour into your lungs. As you inhale, you’ll experience a throat hit, or a warm hit at the back of your throat. On the exhale, you would release a modest amount of vapour. If you enjoy the throat hit you get on the inhale but also want a stronger rush of nicotine in a shorter amount of time, you’ll want to vape using a MTL vaping method.
While most vapes offer either direct to lung or mouth to lung vaping styles, there are some vape kits and pens that allow you to interchange between the two vaping styles depending on what coil you’re using. As a general rule, the vape coil that comes with a vape determines what kind of vaping style you can utilise. The lower the ohm resistance (>1.0ohm) on a vape’s coil, the cloudier your exhale will be (direct to lung). A vape coil with an ohm resistance over 1.0ohm will be restricted, giving you that classic throat hit and a longer draw or initial inhale (mouth to lung).
